doula support

What is a Doula?

A Doula is an emotional, physical + educational support person for a birthing person and their partner/family.

The word Doula derives from the Greek word “douleiá” (δουλειά) which translates as ‘a woman who serves’, stemming from a time when women gathered in reverence and birthed in community, supported and guided in sisterhood.

Doula’s are birth workers in our modern society and create a bridge of information, communication and support between the birthing woman, her partner, support team and care providers - be that in a home, birth centre or hospital setting.

A Doula provides continual care, support, guidance and education from pregnancy, through labour and delivery and into postpartum.

I am a Full Spectrum Doula trained under DTI (Doula Trainings International) to support individuals and families through Pregnancy, Birth, Postpartum, Loss + Abortion.
I champion bodily autonomy and advocacy and acknowledge that my clients are the experts when it comes to understanding their bodies and individualised needs.

Wherever you find yourself in your reproductive journey, I’m here to support you.
I provide confidential, personalised, gentle, loving care and support.

Support Services

As the Bow Valley’s only Full Spectrum Doula
I intentionally limit the number of birth and postpartum families I support each month to ensure I continue to provide the highest level of care and support.

It is never too early or late in your pregnancy or postpartum journey to reach out and see if I can support you.
I look forward to connecting with you!

Customised Birth Preferences

Consider all options and avenues available to you and with my help and guidance we will create customised birth preferences ready to take into your birth space.

By having birth preferences available for your team and care providers to reference you remain uninterrupted, while everyone in your birth space is easily able to identify your preferences at a moments notice. These birth preferences are also a great tool for your support partner or team to refer to when advocating on your behalf.

These laminated birth preferences have been incredibly well received by hospital staff in Canmore and Foothills Hospital as well as the midwives from Shifra Midwifery. Protect your space and your birth vision and avoid getting swept along in the system.

In this 60min virtual session we cover a wide range of topics to establish a clear vision of your ideal birth, I am available to answer any questions you may have about certain options/procedures. Following our call I collate all of your birth preferences into a one page, coloured document which I then send to you for your approval, once you have previewed and any adjustments have been made I then print, laminate and deliver your customised birth preferences to you.

Categories we cover and outline in your preferences:

 FAQs

  • I live in Banff Alberta and offer my services to Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise + Exshaw

  • Being the only Doula servicing the Bow Valley, I take extra special precautions to ensure that all of my clients receive the best care and support. I am currently only taking one EDD (estimated due date) per month. These spaces fill quickly so the earlier in your pregnancy you reach out and enquire about Doula Support the better chances of booking me.

  • Yes absolutely! Everyone needs care and support as they step into this new chapter. If you are feeling the call to further support yourself and your family, please reach out, it would be my honour to support you.

  • A million times, yes! One of the greatest gifts you can give a new parent or family is the gift of love and support.
Provide a new parent professional support and assistance during the early, sleep-deprived days!

  • Yes! Book me for an overnight postpartum visit and enjoy a night of uninterrupted sleep, knowing your little one is taken care of.

  • Teale was an amazing support person. She was able to help me feed the twins, clean up a little bit and also wash bottles. She also provided a listening ear, and provided words of encouragement and was lovely to sit with. Honestly, this is truly Teale's calling, she is a wonderful person and I am a stronger mother because of her support she was able to provide.

    — C.P

  • Teale was thorough about knowing our wishes with the whole birthing process and making us feel comfortable. She gave me advice when I thought I was going into labour and was a calming force the whole time we were in the hospital. She was there for us when the hospital staff was busy running around.

    — A.H

  • Teale's knowledge and calm demeanour was the most helpful for myself and my extremely nervous husband. She jumped in and assisted a lot with pressure points and helping me to move. I honestly wish I could have had her help longer (I pictured a longer labour at home) but it all happened very quickly!

    — S.T

  • Description goes hereTeale is one of the warmest people I have ever met! I was thrilled to learn that she was offering a 5 week postnatal yoga series at Flow State- I absolutely loved it. As a new mom, it was a great way to dedicate time towards myself (even though my baby was there). It was also a great opportunity to connect with other parents and babies.

    — A.F

  • During a long and complicated birth experience, Teale was a constant calm and advocate in the birth space. Teale's ability to provide personalised, compassionate care helped me feel supported and empowered during childbirth. We also shared many laughs and stories to pass time! Not only did Teale support me, she kept a close eye on my husband and made sure he remained informed and encouraged.
