What is a Doula?

A Doula is an emotional, physical + educational support person for a birthing person and their partner/family.
A Doula provides continual care, support, guidance and education from pregnancy, through labour and delivery and into postpartum.

The word Doula derives from the Greek word “douleiá” (δουλειά) which translates as ‘a woman who serves’, stemming from a time when women gathered in reverence and birthed in community, supported and guided in sisterhood.

Doula’s are birth workers in our modern society and create a bridge of information, communication and support between the birthing woman, her partner, support team and care providers - in a home, birth centre or hospital setting.

It is never too early or late in your pregnancy or postpartum journey to reach out.

I look forward to connecting
with you!

Postpartum & Beyond

Supporting your journey into Motherhood

Welcome to Postpartum

Welcome to the fourth trimester! Whether you’re fresh in your postpartum journey, been here a while or looking ahead as you plan for this transition period, I’m SO glad you are here!

I offer day and overnight support where we tailor each visit to the current needs of you and your family.

Unsure of where to begin or what support best works for you, reach out and we can arrange a time to chat!

During a Postpartum Day Visit we will assess your individual needs and goals for the visit. We then prioritize what will best support you, sometimes that will look like rest, other times getting out the house, help with household chores, caring for baby - every visit is different based on your families needs on the day.

During an Overnight Visit the goal is simple - get you (and your partner) a full nights rest. With extensive experience caring for single and multiples you can rest easy knowing that overnight feeds and changes are taken care of. Wake up well-rested to a clean house (all bottles will be taken care of prior to leaving).

With over 15 years experience caring for children ranging from newborns to teens I am happy to provide childcare for your family.

 FAQs

  • Teale was an amazing support person. She was able to help me feed the twins, clean up a little bit and also wash bottles. She also provided a listening ear, and provided words of encouragement and was lovely to sit with. Honestly, this is truly Teale's calling, she is a wonderful person and I am a stronger mother because of her support she was able to provide.

  • Teale was thorough about knowing our wishes with the whole birthing process and making us feel comfortable. She gave me advice when I thought I was going into labour and was a calming force the whole time we were in the hospital. She was there for us when the hospital staff was busy running around.

  • Teale's knowledge and calm demeanour was the most helpful for myself and my extremely nervous husband. She jumped in and assisted a lot with pressure points and helping me to move. I honestly wish I could have had her help longer (I pictured a longer labour at home) but it all happened very quickly!

  • Description goes hereTeale is one of the warmest people I have ever met! I was thrilled to learn that she was offering a 5 week postnatal yoga series at Flow State- I absolutely loved it. As a new mom, it was a great way to dedicate time towards myself (even though my baby was there). It was also a great opportunity to connect with other parents and babies.

  • During a long and complicated birth experience, Teale was a constant calm and advocate in the birth space. Teale's ability to provide personalised, compassionate care helped me feel supported and empowered during childbirth. We also shared many laughs and stories to pass time! Not only did Teale support me, she kept a close eye on my husband and made sure he remained informed and encouraged.
